No doubt, such virtues as humility or ‘poverty of spirit’ are listed among the top virtues of Christianity. However, sometimes we tend to confuse those godly things with demonic ones. Instead of humility we fall into discouragement; instead of poverty of spirit, which leads to complete reliance on God, we fall into low self esteem and depression.
There is an easy way to distinct true godly humility from discouragement that comes from the evil one. When you humble yourself to God, you become filled with His joy, power and ability to act and fulfill His will in your life. At this, your circumstances cannot keep you back from following Him.
When you get trapped by discouragement, it immobilizes you. You become downcast, feel depressed and unable to do anything, even in the most favorable circumstances. So, discouragement is a trap devil wants you to fall into. This way, he can keep you away from doing God’s will in your life and bearing fruit for His Kingdom.
Prayer Suggestion: Pray to the Lord, so He would give you wisdom to see the difference between godly humility, true poverty of spirit and devilish trap of discouragement. Pray for the Lord to open up your spiritual eyes to see the riches of His glory and the might of His power in you to do His will and to overcome any trap or stronghold on your way.
